Making Volcanoes

Our school is learning about natural disasters so in the middle room we had a reliever teacher Mrs
Greenwood and we made volcano's in the school sandpit. We named one of them mount Mento's because we put coke and Mento's to make it explode that's the girls one. The boys one aswell they did mount soda. They used red dye, baking soda and vinagar. Thats how we did it and here are some pictures to prove it.

Ella in Hawaii

Hi, so here are some pictures from Hawaii. We went on a day trip, hunted for crabs and coconuts for Orion, (no crabs, sorry - just a turtle) and visited an extinct volcano. We walked right up the side of the crater to the rim - it was a long way and we had to go thuough dark tunnels and up steep stairs that were built for WWII. It was fun.
You can see the whole crater in one picture and the volcanic mountain (with no top) behind the beach picture.
Hawaii has another BIG volcano that has lava coming out all the time, but it is on another island.
I hope you like these photos, love Ella. xo

Natural Disasters in New Zealand

We had to work in groups to decide which natural disaster was the most likely to happen in New Zealand. The pictures at the top are the most likely and the bottom least likely. This was tricky as we had to do it silently but still agree!
Have a look at our final lists, do you agree with them?

Our New TOYS!!!

The school has purchased two unicycles. Do you think you can ride one?

Our class pet

Nic found a chrysalis while she was cleaning up and gave it to our room to look after. The butterfly is now out of its chrysalis but its wing is a bit crushed so it can't fly very well.

Long u

This week and the end of last week we started looking at the long u.
We are finding some of these a bit tricky as the sounds are close to long u but not as straight forward as the other long vowels.
We now know that these patterns make long u's
ew ------blew, chew
u_e ------ute, dispute
ue and oo is close too ----moon, spoon, blue

How many more do you know?

Replies

We were learning to write letters and we sent lots of letters off to different places asking for information on Natural Disasters. The EQC (Earthquake Commission) sent a reply to Thomas, Tiarne, Luca and Sean. In the pack were lots of pamphlets, magnets and badges.
